Academic Work

1983-1993 – Zlobin served as a professor and scholar at Moscow State University. He reached the status of a Senior Fellow and during that time he was a Kremlin advisor as well.

1993-2000 – He was a professor and scholar in Europe and the US at the Kennan Institute of Advance Russian Studies, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, the American University in Washington, D.C., Georgetown, Stanford, Webster, George Washington and Harvard universities.

Since 1993, he has been one of the founders and editors of the leading Western journal on the USSR published in the US: “Demokratizatsiya. The Journal of Post-Soviet Democratization"

2000-2004 – He was the founder and director of the international news agency Washington Profile.

2001-2005 – He served as the director of Russian and Asian programs at Center for Defense Information in Washington DC.

Since 2004 – He has been a permanent member of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

Since 2005 – He has been a member of Expert board of Ria Novosti in Moscow.

Since 2006 – He has been the director of Russian and Asian programs at World Security Institute in Washington, DC.

Since 2008 – He has been a permanent member of Yaroslavl Global Policy Forum.

He is also a member of several American and International political clubs and societies.

He is also a member of the board of directors of several Russian, American and International Think-Tanks and centers for political studies. Currently, he is an adviser of the US government and, according to media, an unofficial adviser to Kremlin. Formerly, he was the director of Russian and Asian programs at World Security Institute in Washington, D.C.
