The show reportedly dropped in ratings in September 2011 after Scott had exited. Scott has created a Twitter account to "tell the truth" in "her own words". She said "I've recently joined Twitter because I can tell the truth in my own words. So nobody can mess with that. So all I can do is tell the truth and keep fans abreast of what is really going on." The character and actress are considered an icon of the show and daytime television. Former head-writer Maria Arena Bell called Nikki one of the "hearts and souls" on the show, and said "Melody is a phenomenal actress. Nikki is one of the great core characters of The Young and the Restless."
