Nicotinic Acids

Nicotinic acids are derivatives of pyridine which have a carboxy group.

Although the term niacin is sometimes used interchangeably with "nicotinic acid", it is more precise to only apply it to the 1-3 (meta) substituted form.

Examples include:

  • arecoline
  • nicotinamide
  • nicorandil
  • nikethamide
  • nimodipine

Famous quotes containing the word acids:

The new American finds his challenge and his love in the traffic-choked streets, skies nested in smog, choking with the acids of industry, the screech of rubber and houses leashed in against one another while the townlets wither a time and die.
    John Steinbeck (1902–1968)
