Next to Normal won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama even though it had not been on the list of three candidates submitted to the twenty-member Pulitzer Prize board by the five-member Drama jury. Disgraced jury chairman and critic Charles McNulty, infamous for his preference for affected works, publicly criticized the Board for overlooking the three plays not running on Broadway at the time of the Award in favor of one that was.
