Newtown Creek - Bridges

Bridges

Newtown Creek is crossed by the Pulaski Bridge (replacing the Vernon Ave Bridge in the 1950s), the J. J. Byrne Memorial Bridge also known as the Greenpoint Avenue Bridge, and the Kosciuszko Bridge, which carries the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. Several bridges that cross its tributaries are named for the street that they carry, such as Grand Street Bridge and Metropolitan Avenue Bridge.

Famous quotes containing the word bridges:

Awake! the land is scattered with light, and see,
Uncanopied sleep is flying from field and tree:
    —Robert Bridges (1844–1930)

If the Revolution has the right to destroy bridges and art monuments whenever necessary, it will stop still less from laying its hand on any tendency in art which, no matter how great its achievement in form, threatens to disintegrate the revolutionary environment or to arouse the internal forces of the Revolution, that is, the proletariat, the peasantry and the intelligentsia, to a hostile opposition to one another. Our standard is, clearly, political, imperative and intolerant.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

    As night is withdrawn
From these sweet-springing meads and bursting boughs of May,
Dream, while the innumerable choir of day
    Welcome the dawn.
    —Robert Bridges (1844–1930)
