Newly Industrialized Country - Issues

Issues

Economic freedom is not always associated with political freedom in nations such as the People's Republic of China, where Internet censorship and human rights violations are common. The case is diametrically opposite for India. While being a liberal democracy throughout its post-colonial history, India has been widely criticized for its inefficient government and widespread corruption in some regions of the country. Thus, while in China where political freedoms remain tight, the average Chinese citizen enjoys a higher standard of living than his or her counterpart in some regions of India. South Africa faces an influx of immigrants from countries such as Zimbabwe. Mexico's economic growth is threatened by drug war in north of the country.

Famous quotes containing the word issues:

Cynicism formulates issues clearly, but only to dismiss them.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

The hard truth is that what may be acceptable in elite culture may not be acceptable in mass culture, that tastes which pose only innocent ethical issues as the property of a minority become corrupting when they become more established. Taste is context, and the context has changed.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)

Your toddler will be “good” if he feels like doing what you happen to want him to do and does not happen to feel like doing anything you would dislike. With a little cleverness you can organize life as a whole, and issues in particular, so that you both want the same thing most of the time.
    Penelope Leach (20th century)
