Colours
Newcastle East End's second kit |
The original and most common colours of the club was red shirts, with white shorts and black socks. Despite the fact that this was the kit they first wore and indeed the kit originally passed on to Newcastle United after the merger, a second kit has gained more attention in some sources.
The second kit was a brief change in colours during the mid-1880s, this kit was made up of a red and white striped shirt, with navy shorts and black socks. It is considered highly ironic in the History of Newcastle United, because the club's main rivals Sunderland used the same colours.

Famous quotes containing the word colours:
“The sounding cataract
Haunted me like a passion: the tall rock,
The mountain, and the deep and gloomy wood,
Their colours and their forms, were then to me
An appetite: a feeling and a love,
That had no need of a remoter charm,
By thought supplied, or any interest
Unborrowed from the eye.”
—William Wordsworth (17701850)
“So different are the colours of life, as we look forward to the future, or backward to the past; and so different the opinions and sentiments which this contrariety of appearance naturally produces, that the conversation of the old and young ends generally with contempt or pity on either side.”
—Samuel Johnson (17091784)
“When we reflect on our past sentiments and affections, our thought is a faithful mirror, and copies its objects truly; but the colours which it employs are faint and dull, in comparison of those in which our original perceptions were clothed.”
—David Hume (17111776)
