New Zealand House of Representatives - New Zealand Youth Parliament

New Zealand Youth Parliament

  • Once in every term of Parliament a New Zealand Youth Parliament is held. This major national event is open to 16 - 18 year olds who are appointed by individual MPs to represent them in their role for a few days in Wellington. The Youth MPs spend time debating a mock bill in the House and in select committees and asking questions of Cabinet Ministers. The next New Zealand Youth Parliament will be held in July 2013.

Famous quotes containing the words zealand, youth and/or parliament:

    Teasing is universal. Anthropologists have found the same fundamental patterns of teasing among New Zealand aborigine children and inner-city kids on the playgrounds of Philadelphia.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)

    Care keeps his watch in every old man’s eye,
    And where care lodges, sleep will never lie;
    But where unbruisèd youth with unstuffed brain
    Doth couch his limbs, there golden sleep doth reign.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    He felt that it would be dull times in Dublin, when they should have no usurping government to abuse, no Saxon Parliament to upbraid, no English laws to ridicule, and no Established Church to curse.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)
