2010 Election Cycle

Neil Di Carlo, a pro-life candidate who lost the primary, refused to endorse Hayworth and suggested that his supporters "write in a candidate of your choice".
The district was considered to be a toss-up race in the election. Until 2006, the 19th Congressional District was considered a reliably Republican district and the National Republican Congressional Committee had mentioned that Hall's seat was one they hoped to take during the 2010 election cycle. It has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R+3, although in more recent elections Democratic candidates had seen their rate of success increase. Polls from mid-October 2010 showed Republican Hayworth leading within the margin of error, and the race was considered to be a statistical dead heat. On November 2, 2010, Hayworth defeated Hall in the general election by a margin of 53% to 47%.

Famous quotes containing the words election and/or cycle:
“Last evening attended Croghan Lodge International Order of Odd Fellows. Election of officers. Chosen Noble Grand. These social organizations have a number of good results. All who attend are educated in self-government. This in a marked way. They bind society together. The well-to-do and the poor should be brought together as much as possible. The separation into classescastesis our danger. It is the danger of all civilizations.”

“Only mediocrities progress. An artist revolves in a cycle of masterpieces, the first of which is no less perfect than the last.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
