New Wineskins Association of Churches

The New Wineskins Association of Churches (NWAC) is a group of nearly 200 theologically conservative Presbyterian churches, each of which is in varying stages of departing from the mainline Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), also known as PC(USA). The New Wineskins network of churches was formed as a result of growing discontent among theologically conservative pastors, elders, and members regarding the general direction of the PC(USA). The NWAC will come to a conclusion in June of 2012.

Some churches have fully departed from the PC(USA), others are in process of leaving, and still others intend to stay within the PC(USA). As of now, nearly 40 individual churches have formed the New Wineskins Presbytery, a non-geographic presbytery opened up by the more conservative Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC).

The current co-moderators of the New Wineskins Association are Dean Weaver and Rev. Gerrit Dawson. The NWAC maintains headquarters in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh.

Famous quotes containing the words association and/or churches:

In this great association we know no North, no South, no East, no West. This has been our pride for all these years. We have no political party. We never have inquired what anybody’s religion is. All we ever have asked is simply, “Do you believe in perfect equality for women?” This is the one article in our creed.
    Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906)

People fall out of windows, trees tumble down,
Summer is changed to winter, the young grow old
The air is full of children, statues, roofs
And snow. The theatre is spinning round,
Colliding with deaf-mute churches and optical trains.
The most massive sopranos are singing songs of scales.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
