New Source Performance Standard - Clean Air Act

Clean Air Act

NSPS under the CAA dictate the level of pollution that a new stationary source may produce. These standards are authorized by Section 111 of the CAA and the regulations are published in 40 CFR Part 60. An NSPS has been established for a number of individual industrial or source categories.

Examples:

  • Landfills
  • Boilers
  • Petroleum refineries
  • Turbines
  • Wastewater (air emissions from wastewater treatment systems)

Famous quotes containing the words clean, air and/or act:

How clean the sun when seen in its idea,
Washed in the remotest cleanliness of a heaven
That has expelled us and our images . . .
The death of one god is the death of all.
Let purple Phoebus lie in umber harvest,
Let Phoebus slumber and die in autumn umber....
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

He who will one day teach men to fly will have displaced all boundary stones; the boundary stones themselves will fly up into the air to him, and he will rebaptize the earth—as “the weightless.”
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

Dangerous conceits are in their natures poisons,
Which at the first are scarce found to distaste,
But with a little act upon the blood
Burn like the mines of sulphur.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
