Village Amenities and Public Houses

New Radnor has only one pub - The Radnor Arms. The Eagle public house has been closed for some time. The village Post Office closed in 2008. There is a chapel, church, community centre or village hall, the war memorial and a primary school - currently teaching approx 80 pupils. Some years ago New Radnor narrowly missed out on the award for Best Kept village in Wales..

Famous quotes containing the words village, public and/or houses:

Where village statesmen talked with looks profound,
And news much older than their ale went round.
    Oliver Goldsmith (1728–1774)

Kirsten: So you’re the new public relations man.
    Joe: Yeah.
    Kirsten: What happened to Eddie?
    Joe: Eddie quit.
Kirsten: I liked him. Why’d he quit?
Joe: Well, a little matter of personal integrity. Eddie didn’t feel that getting dates for potentates was part of public relations.
    Kirsten: But isn’t it?
Joe: Well, there’s a name for it but it’s not “public relations.”
    —J.P. (James Pinckney)

He hung out of the window a long while looking up and down the street. The world’s second metropolis. In the brick houses and the dingy lamplight and the voices of a group of boys kidding and quarreling on the steps of a house opposite, in the regular firm tread of a policeman, he felt a marching like soldiers, like a sidewheeler going up the Hudson under the Palisades, like an election parade, through long streets towards something tall white full of colonnades and stately. Metropolis.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)
