New Puerto Rican Independence Movement

The New Puerto Rican Independence Movement (Spanish: Nuevo Movimiento Independentista Puertorriqueño, NMIP) was a left-wing pro-independence organization in Puerto Rico. Founded in 1993 by former members of the Puerto Rican Socialist Party, one of its primary leaders was Carlos Gallisá. In 2004, the NMIP merged with the National Hostosian Congress to form the Hostosian National Independence Movement (MINH).

Famous quotes containing the words independence and/or movement:

I am savage enough to prefer the woods, the wilds, and the independence of Monticello, to all the brilliant pleasures of this gay capital [Paris].
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

Suppose these houses are composed of ourselves,
So that they become an impalpable town, full of
    Impalpable bells, transparencies of sound,
Sounding in the transparent dwellings of the self,
Impalpable habitations that seem to move
In the movement of the colors of the mind....
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
