New Paltz High School - Academics

Academics

The original structure was completed in 1968, at which time the average class size was significantly smaller than in later decades. Over the course of the next few decades, capital improvements were made to adapt to a growing student population. In 2004 the high school underwent major construction, adding a new wing.

New Paltz High School is known for its academic success. The school has a variety of Advanced Placement courses that offer college credits. These classes are taken by students who want to challenge themselves in history, science, math, or literature and writing. Due to the high school's small size, students receive unparalleled one-on-one attention, lending to their academic success.

The school was recently rated 98 in Newsweek's top Public High Schools in the nation. This study bases rank from calculating the amount of Advanced Placement courses taken by students in the school and their success in taking them.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)
