When Operation Barbarossa was launched on June 22, 1941, Hitler had expected to achieve victory in World War II by 1944. After achieving victory, he planned, after completing the urban renewal plan for Berlin, to hold a great World's Fair in the Third Reich's capital by 1950. He would ultimately retire to his hometown of Linz. Hitler had hoped that upon his death he would be buried in a simple tomb in Munich.
