History
NIST opened to students in August 1992, when the former school located at the campus (The International School of Bangkok) moved to the outskirts of Bangkok. It was established by a group of individuals who felt that there was a need for a school having a truly internationally focused curriculum in Bangkok that is not tied to a specific national system.
The school is run by a non-profit organization, the Foundation for International Education (FIE). The FIE chooses a board of directors, who are elected from the body of parents. The primary task of the board of directors is to select the Head of School. The current Head of School is Simon Leslie.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“I assure you that in our next class we will concern ourselves solely with the history of Egypt, and not with the more lurid and non-curricular subject of living mummies.”
—Griffin Jay, and Reginald LeBorg. Prof. Norman (Frank Reicher)
“I am ashamed to see what a shallow village tale our so-called History is. How many times must we say Rome, and Paris, and Constantinople! What does Rome know of rat and lizard? What are Olympiads and Consulates to these neighboring systems of being? Nay, what food or experience or succor have they for the Esquimaux seal-hunter, or the Kanaka in his canoe, for the fisherman, the stevedore, the porter?”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“History ... is, indeed, little more than the register of the crimes, follies, and misfortunes of mankind.
But what experience and history teach is thisthat peoples and governments have never learned anything from history, or acted on principles deduced from it.”
—Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (17701831)
