The Regulation of Marijuana Initiative, or Question 7 in Nevada, is an act that will be voted on in the upcoming 2006 United States general election by all registered Nevada state citizens. It will amend the Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) to allow for up to one ounce of marijuana to be purchased by individuals 21 years of age or older in a regulated, controlled, and state-taxed system.
The initiative will amend the NRS by inserting several sections legally defining terms such as "marijuana", "paraphernalia", and others, protect adults over the age of 21 from arrest or jail time for possession of up to one ounce of marijuana, maintain current underage marijuana penalties, and increase penalties for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of any illegal substance, amongst a slew of other provisions. It will go into effect on November 26, 2006 if passed.
Famous quotes containing the words regulation, marijuana and/or initiative:
“Nothing changes my twenty-six years in the military. I continue to love it and everything it stands for and everything I was able to accomplish in it. To put up a wall against the military because of one regulation would be doing the same thing that the regulation does in terms of negating people.”
—Margarethe Cammermeyer (b. 1942)
“Is marijuana addictive? Yes, in the sense that most of the really pleasant things in life are worth endlessly repeating.”
—Richard Neville (b. 1941)
“I am firmly opposed to the government entering into any business the major purpose of which is competition with our citizens ... for the Federal Government deliberately to go out to build up and expand ... a power and manufacturing business is to break down the initiative and enterprise of the American people; it is the destruction of equality of opportunity amongst our people, it is the negation of the ideals upon which our civilization has been based.”
—Herbert Hoover (18741964)
