Basic Tenets

The Network of Spiritual Progressives was founded based on three basic tenets:

  • Changing the bottom line in America.
  • Challenging the misuse of religion, God and spirit by the Religious Right.
  • Challenging the many anti-religious and anti-spiritual assumptions and behaviors that have increasingly become part of the liberal culture.

Famous quotes containing the words basic and/or tenets:

Our basic ideas about how to parent are encrusted with deeply felt emotions and many myths. One of the myths of parenting is that it is always fun and games, joy and delight. Everyone who has been a parent will testify that it is also anxiety, strife, frustration, and even hostility. Thus most major parenting- education formats deal with parental emotions and attitudes and, to a greater or lesser extent, advocate that the emotional component is more important than the knowledge.
    Bettye M. Caldwell (20th century)

Indigenous to Minnesota, and almost completely ignored by its people, are the stark, unornamented, functional clusters of concrete—Minnesota’s grain elevators. These may be said to express unconsciously all the principles of modernism, being built for use only, with little regard for the tenets of esthetic design.
