Neil Turley - Career Start

Career Start

Neil started his career as a junior with Wigan, coming through their Academy set-up. As an Academy player he starred in the 1998 Academy Grand Final for Wigan in their defeat to the Leeds Rhinos, who boasted such current international stars as Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow.citation required

His senior career was unlikely to prosper at Wigan as Turley played understudy to Great Britain full back Kris Radlinski. Turley took the offer in 2000 to join Second Division side Leigh Centurions. Neil's father, Norman Turley, was the Centurions' assistant coach. Making his début in a friendly game against Australia's South Sydney Rabbitohs in late 2000, Neil showed great promise.

Famous quotes containing the words career and/or start:

It is a great many years since at the outset of my career I had to think seriously what life had to offer that was worth having. I came to the conclusion that the chief good for me was freedom to learn, think, and say what I pleased, when I pleased. I have acted on that conviction... and though strongly, and perhaps wisely, warned that I should probably come to grief, I am entirely satisfied with the results of the line of action I have adopted.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)

Do we write books so that they shall merely be read? Don’t we also write them for employment in the household? For one that is read from start to finish, thousands are leafed through, other thousands lie motionless, others are jammed against mouseholes, thrown at rats, others are stood on, sat on, drummed on, have gingerbread baked on them or are used to light pipes.
    —G.C. (Georg Christoph)
