Negative Theater

Negative Theater, a European-only import CD, is the fifth solo album released by Ric Ocasek.

Negative Theater was originally intended to be Ocasek's fourth solo effort consisting of a double CD and a book of poetry. However, in North America, Reprise Records declined to release the CD in Ocasek's original form. Instead, the company took 7 tracks from Ocasek's project, and had him record 7 additional tracks with producer Mike Shipley. The resulting record was issued as Quick Change World in North America only.

For European release, Negative Theater was issued as a 15-track CD. It included 7 tracks that were issued on Quick Change World, and 8 tracks that are exclusive to this album.

Famous quotes containing the words negative and/or theater:

The idealist’s programme of political or economic reform may be impracticable, absurd, demonstrably ridiculous; but it can never be successfully opposed merely by pointing out that this is the case. A negative opposition cannot be wholly effectual: there must be a competing idealism; something must be offered that is not only less objectionable but more desirable.
    Charles Horton Cooley (1864–1929)

The theater is a baffling business, and a shockingly wasteful one when you consider that people who have proven their worth, who have appeared in or been responsible for successful plays, who have given outstanding performances, can still, in the full tide of their energy, be forced, through lack of opportunity, to sit idle season after season, their enthusiasm, their morale, their very talent dwindling to slow gray death. Of finances we will not even speak; it is too sad a tale.
    Ilka Chase (1905–1978)
