Critics slightly praised the game because for injecting new "tuning" life in the franchise, despite primary complaints of repetitive tracks, unbalanced rubberband AI, unrealistic tuning, excessive use of random traffic, and lack of an online feature in the GameCube and Xbox versions, and lack of Free Roam was widely criticized by gamers.
