Cause
The etiology of NME is unknown, although various mechanisms have been suggested. These include hyperglucagonemia, zinc deficiency, fatty acid deficiency, hypoaminoacidemia, and liver disease. In addition to the etiology being unknown, the pathogenesis is also unknown.
