Democratic Structure
NUS Scotland policy is set by the 13-member Scottish Executive Council (SEC), which meets monthly.
The NUS Scotland President, VP (Education), VP (Community), two Priority, Education and Community Campaign Conveners, the Mature Students' Officer and Postgraduate Students' Officer are elected each year at NUS Scotland Conference, which is usually held in March, by representatives from member students’ associations. All elected officers hold the post from 1 July to 30 June.
Liberation Officers (Women's Officer, Black Students' Officer, LGBT Students' Officer, Disabled Students' Officer) are each elected at their own conferences, held between the NUS Scotland Conference and the end of June.
Elected officers can hold each post for a maximum of two years.

Famous quotes containing the words democratic and/or structure:
“The debates of that great assembly are frequently vague and perplexed, seeming to be dragged rather than to march, to the intended goal. Something of this sort must, I think, always happen in public democratic assemblies.”
—Alexis de Tocqueville (18051859)
“... the structure of a page of good prose is, analyzed logically, not something frozen but the vibrating of a bridge, which changes with every step one takes on it.”
—Robert Musil (18801942)
