National Hobo Convention - Downtown Carnival and Flea Market

Downtown Carnival and Flea Market

Starting on Wednesday, Britt's northern Main Street is transformed into a makeshift carnival. Originally, the carnival consisted of rides like the Scrambler, Merry-Go-Round, and others. However, over the years, due to complaints about injuries from the rides, and problems with the carnival workers, this was changed to mostly inflatable attractions.

The flea market is usually located on the southern end of Main Street.

When General Motors has to go to the bathroom ten times a day, the whole country’s ready to let go. You heard of that market crash in ‘29? I predicted that.... I was nursing a director of General Motors. Kidney ailment, they said; nerves, I said. Then I asked myself, “What’s General Motors got to be nervous about?” “Overproduction,” I says. “Collapse.”
    John Michael Hayes (b. 1919)
