National Cricket Performance Centre - National Academy Player Intake

National Academy Player Intake

Each year the best up and coming cricket talent from around Britain are invited to train with the National Academy, originally under the tutelage of Head Coach Rod Marsh and now under that of Director David Parsons. These young players are those that have been earmarked as possible players in future English cricket teams and it is for this reason that the National Academy was set up. Current England players that have come through the Academy system include James Anderson, Ian Bell, Alastair Cook, Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison, Simon Jones, Monty Panesar, Kevin Pietersen, Liam Plunkett and Andrew Strauss.

Players in bold have represented England at either Test or ODI level prior to their call-up to the Academy.

Famous quotes containing the words national, academy and/or player:

The religion of England is part of good-breeding. When you see on the continent the well-dressed Englishman come into his ambassador’s chapel and put his face for silent prayer into his smooth-brushed hat, you cannot help feeling how much national pride prays with him, and the religion of a gentleman.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The academy is not paradise. But learning is a place where paradise can be created.
    bell hooks (b. c. 1955)

If God had an agent, the world wouldn’t be built yet. It’d only be about Thursday.
Jerry Reynolds, Sacramento Kings’ player personnel director. Quoted in Newsweek (New York, November 25, 1991)
