In contrast the 1981 National Bicycle League (NBL) Grand Nationals held during the previous September in St. Louis, Missouri had approximately 1,300 entries comprising 181 motos. and the approximately 2,500 racers that comprised the 1981 American Bicycle Association (ABA) Grand Nationals in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma few weeks before in late November.
