In Popular Culture
Nasi goreng was the title in Tante Lien's song "Geef Mij Maar Nasi Goreng" (Give me just Nasi Goreng) recorded in 1979. The song demonstrate historical culinary ties between the Netherlands and Indonesia as well as whimsically describes of how Indo (Eurasian) descent being repatriated in the Netherlands are badly craved for Indonesian cuisine.
Nasi goreng was part of the dinner menu for Barack Obama's state visit to Indonesia in 2010, where he praised the dish, along with bakso (meatball soup) and emping (melinjo crackers made from Gnetum gnemon), as delicious.

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:
“The man of large and conspicuous public service in civil life must be content without the Presidency. Still more, the availability of a popular man in a doubtful State will secure him the prize in a close contest against the first statesman of the country whose State is safe.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
“Cynicism makes things worse than they are in that it makes permanent the current condition, leaving us with no hope of transcending it. Idealism refuses to confront reality as it is but overlays it with sentimentality. What cynicism and idealism share in common is an acceptance of reality as it is but with a bad conscience.”
—Richard Stivers, U.S. sociologist, educator. The Culture of Cynicism: American Morality in Decline, ch. 1, Blackwell (1994)
