His wife, Sudha Murthy (née Kulkarni), is an Indian social worker and accomplished author. She is known for her philanthropic work through the Infosys Foundation. Her sister, Jayashree Deshpande is wife of entrepreneur and founder of US-based Sycamore Networks, Gururaj Deshpande. Murthy is the brother-in-law of serial entrepreneur Gururaj "Desh" Deshpande.
