Music Of Denmark

Denmark's most famous classical composer is Carl Nielsen, especially remembered for his six symphonies while the Royal Danish Ballet specializes in the work of Danish choreographer August Bournonville. Danes have distinguished themselves as jazz musicians, and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival has acquired an international reputation. The modern pop and rock scene has produced a few names of note, including D-A-D, Tina Dico, Aqua, The Raveonettes, Michael Learns to Rock, Alphabeat, Medina, Oh Land, Kashmir and Mew. All together, Lars Ulrich has become the first Danish musician to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Famous quotes containing the words music of and/or music:

His style is eminently colloquial, and no wonder it is strange to meet with in a book. It is not literary or classical; it has not the music of poetry, nor the pomp of philosophy, but the rhythms and cadences of conversation endlessly repeated.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

A woman drew her long black hair out tight
And fiddled whisper music on those strings
And bats with baby faces in the violet light
    Whistled, and beat their wings
And crawled head downward down a blackened wall....
