Murray Riley - Life of Crime

Life of Crime

Later, he became a convicted drug smuggler, he started using some his connections with the American organised crime which lived in Sydney, Australia to gain entrée to the US underworld.

He was once photographed with Sal Amarena of the Santos Trafficante mafia family on a trip to San Francisco. Riley also had links with the Teamsters and Mafia through associations with Rudy Tham.

Some people believe that Riley’s drug activities were financed by the Central Intelligence Agency with the help of their CIA front the Nugan Hand Bank which allowed him to import and export Australian Cannabis and then Heroin from the far east and the U.S using false-bottomed suitcases.

In 1978, during a joint NSW Police and Narcotics Bureau operation, Riley was caught unloading around 2.7 tonnes of cannabis from boat parked on the NSW North Coast. For his part in the crime, Riley received 10 years imprisonment.

Famous quotes containing the words life of, life and/or crime:

Indeed, the life of cattle, like that of many men, is but a sort of locomotiveness; they move a side at a time, and man, by his machinery, is meeting the horse and the ox half-way.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    I cannot live with You—
    It would be Life
    And Life is over there—
    Behind the Shelf
    Emily Dickinson (1830–1886)

Give a scientist a problem and he will probably provide a solution; historians and sociologists, by contrast, can offer only opinions. Ask a dozen chemists the composition of an organic compound such as methane, and within a short time all twelve will have come up with the same solution of CH4. Ask, however, a dozen economists or sociologists to provide policies to reduce unemployment or the level of crime and twelve widely differing opinions are likely to be offered.
Derek Gjertsen, British scientist, author. Science and Philosophy: Past and Present, ch. 3, Penguin (1989)
