King Kong: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was composed by James Newton Howard. Originally Howard Shore, who worked with Peter Jackson on The Lord of the Rings, was to compose the film's score and recorded several completed cues before Jackson removed him from the project. Shore makes a cameo appearance as the conductor in the theatre from which Kong escapes. The film's record album was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.
