The Mouvement des Entreprises de France or MEDEF (in English: "Movement of the Enterprises of France") is the largest union of employers in France. It was formerly known as the Conseil National du Patronat Français or CNPF (in English: "National Council of the French Employers").
It has more than 700,000 member firms, 90% are from SME, with fewer than 50 employees. MEDEF is engaged in lobbying all decision-makers at the local, regional, national and European levels.
Every year, MEDEF International organises a number of delegations of French business leaders with concrete projects to targeted countries, especially developing countries.
The MEDEF states that it endorses “sustainable development”, raising companies’ awareness to the fact that protection of the planet may also be numbered among their competitive advantages.
Its current president, nicknamed “boss of the bosses”, is Laurence Parisot, CEO of IFOP. Previous president was Ernest-Antoine Seillière. Guillaume Sarkozy, the brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, is a senior executive of the MEDEF.
