Mountain Goat

The mountain goat (Oreamnos americanus), also known as the Rocky Mountain goat, is a large-hoofed mammal found only in North America. Despite its vernacular name, it is not a member of Capra, the genus of true goats. It stays at high elevations and is a sure-footed climber, often resting on rocky cliffs that predators cannot access.

Famous quotes containing the words mountain and/or goat:

    The mountain throws a shadow,
    Thin is the moon’s horn;
    What did we remember
    Under the ragged thorn?
    Dread has followed longing,
    And our hearts are torn.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    My men, like satyrs grazing on the lawns,
    Shall with their goat feet dance an antic hay.
    Christopher Marlowe (1564–1593)
