The capacity of the stadium for concerts is roughly 47,000 people.
Mt Smart Stadium was the Auckland venue of the Big Day Out music festival. It also has had Michael Jackson perform in the HIStory Tour for 2 concerts in November 1996 and U2 in the U2 360° Tour for two concerts in November 2010. Pearl Jam performed at the stadium on 27 November 2009 during their Backspacer Tour. In May, 2012, it was announced that the British alternative rock band Coldplay will bring its Mylo Xyloto world tour to the stadium on Saturday, 10 November 2012. This is the band's only scheduled performance venue in New Zealand, and will be its first return to the country since its Viva La Vida tour, in 2009.
