Famous quotes containing the words mother of, mother, god, ministries and/or activities:

And that good Joan whom Englishmen
At Rouen doomed and burned her there,—
Mother of God, where are they then? . . .
    Francois Villon (1431–1465)

Mother love has been much maligned. An over mothered boy may go through life expecting each new woman to love him the way his mother did. Her love may make any other love seem inadequate. But an unloved boy would be even more likely to idealize love. I don’t think it’s possible for a mother or father to love a child too much.

    Frank Pittman (20th century)

I, in my brand new body,
which was not a woman’s yet,
    told the stars my questions
and thought God could really see
the heat and the painted light,
    elbows, knees, dreams, goodnight.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Called as partners in Christ’s service,
    Called to ministries of grace,
    We respond with deep commitment
Fresh new lines of faith to trace.
May we learn the art of sharing,
Side by side and friend with friend,
    Equal partners in our caring
    To fulfill God’s chosen end.
    Jane Parker Huber (b. 1926)

Both at-home and working mothers can overmeet their mothering responsibilities. In order to justify their jobs, working mothers can overnurture, overconnect with, and overschedule their children into activities and classes. Similarly, some at-home mothers,... can make at- home mothering into a bigger deal than it is, over stimulating, overeducating, and overwhelming their children with purposeful attention.
    Jean Marzollo (20th century)
