Academics

Morrison Academy describes its academics as thus:

"Because Morrison is a Christian school, a Christian worldview is integrated into all areas of the American-based curriculum. Bible class and weekly chapel attendance are required for all students. Instruction is in English and is college preparatory in focus. The school year for students extends from mid-August to the first week of June, for a total of 180 instructional days."

AP Courses:

  • AP Chemistry
  • AP Biology
  • AP English Literature/Composition
  • AP U.S. History
  • AP Calculus

Honors Courses:

  • Honors Algebra II

In past years, there has been controversy surrounding the Honors Algebra II course. While the name and course description all imply that the content taught will be harder, there is no raised GPA scale.

At Morrison, 97% of all graduates attend higher education in different countries worldwide. Advanced Placement level courses are offered formally in five subjects. In 2011, 71 candidates from the school took 125 Advanced Placement examinations and merited a pass rate of 95%. In the class of 2011, five students were commended in the National Merit scholarship competition.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
