The Morioka Domain (盛岡藩, Morioka han?) was a han or feudal domain that encompasses present-day the middle-northern part of Iwate Prefecture and eastern part of Aomori Prefecture. It is sometimes colloquially called Nanbu Domain (南部藩, Nanbu han?). The domain was tozama daimyo and was governed by the Satake clan. Its income was 100,000 (koku). The Morioka domain was a member of the Ōuetsu Reppan Dōmei in 1868, and its troops fought in the Boshin War.
In fiction, the Morioka domain is the setting for sections of the novel Mibugishiden, as well as the film Twilight Samurai.

Famous quotes containing the word domain:
“Without metaphor the handling of general concepts such as culture and civilization becomes impossible, and that of disease and disorder is the obvious one for the case in point. Is not crisis itself a concept we owe to Hippocrates? In the social and cultural domain no metaphor is more apt than the pathological one.”
—Johan Huizinga (18721945)
