Moons of Pluto

Moons Of Pluto

Pluto has five known moons. The largest, Charon, is proportionally larger, compared to its primary, than any known satellite of a planetary-mass object, and is mutually tidally locked with Pluto. The other moons, Nix, Hydra, S/2011 P 1 ("P4") and S/2012 P 1 ("P5") are much smaller. The most recent discovery, of S/2012 P 1, provisionally designated "P5", was announced on July 11, 2012.
