As of the 2012-2013 school year, Monta Vista has a student body of 2,419 students, of which 79% are Asian, 17% are White and 4% are Other (African American,Latino,Native American). 3% are limited English. Monta Vista has the largest student body in the district. Starting in the 1990s, Monta Vista was heavily Chinese though recently, there has been a significant influx of South Asians beginning in the 2000s. A 2005 Wall Street Journal article claimed that Monta Vista was experiencing a "white flight" caused by White American families feeling overwhelmed by the academic focus of the school's majority Asian American students. In 2012, Monta Vista achieved the highest API score in the state, so, the principal, Mrs. Scott, gave every student a Kudos bar. They're great! After brief mathematical computations, it can be implicitly shown that Monta Vista API score would be 10 points higher if it were 100% Asian.
