Monster Movie

Monster movie (creature feature or giant monster film) is a movie that centres on the struggle between people and one or more monsters. The film may also belong to the horror, fantasy or science fiction genre. In most cases it is applied to films that feature more oversized monsters. Monster movies originated with adaptations of horror folklore and literature. In Japanese cinema, such monsters are referred to as Kaiju. Typically, movie monsters differ from more traditional antagonists in that many exist due to circumstances beyond their control; their actions not entirely based on choice, potentially making them objects of empathy to film viewers.

Famous quotes containing the words monster and/or movie:

    What monster have we here?
A great Deed at this hour of day?
A great just Deed—and not for pay?
    Absurd,—or insincere.
    Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806–1861)

It was easy to recognize in him the anti-social animus of a born evangelist, but there was also something else—a kind of voluptuous delight in the shabby and preposterous, a perverted aestheticism like that of a latter-day movie or radio fan, a wild will to roll in and snuffle balderdash as a cat rolls in and snuffles catnip.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)
