Modern Painters (magazine)

Modern Painters is a monthly art magazine published in New York City by Louise Blouin Media. The magazine is published 11 times per year; it includes profiles on two international artists per issue; columns by international contributors; interviews with and articles by contemporary artists and curators; and information on exhibitions, books, performances, biennales and festivals. Louise Blouin Media is the third owner of the magazine which was launched in England in 1987 by the influential art critic Peter Fuller, who served as editor until his death in an automobile accident in 1990. Fuller's associate editor, Karen Wright, acquired the title from its original backers, who included Bernard Jacobson (of Bernard Jacobson Gallery) and David Landau (founder and then editor of the scholarly journal, Print Quarterly), amongst others, thereafter. Wright was retained for a short period in a consultancy capacity when the magazine was purchased by its present owners in the early 2000s and its publishing operation was brought to New York City. The current editorial team includes Daniel Kunitz, Editor in Chief; Scott Indrisek, Senior Editor; Orit Gat, Associate Editor; and Ellen Fair, managing editor.

Famous quotes containing the words modern and/or painters:

    O born in days when wits were fresh and clear,
    And life ran gaily as the sparkling Thames;
    Before this strange disease of modern life,
    With its sick hurry, its divided aims,
    Its head o’ertaxed, its palsied hearts, was rife—
    Matthew Arnold (1822–1888)

    Most of our modern portrait painters are doomed to absolute oblivion. They never paint what they see. They paint what the public sees, and the public never sees anything.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
