Purdue University
The Purdue University Board of Trustees unanimously elected Mitch Daniels president of Purdue University on June 21, 2012. As Governor, Daniels had appointed 8 of the 10 Board members, and reappointed the other two, which many called a severe conflict of interest. This is open to interpretation however because the Purdue University Board of Trustees cannot vote on a candidate for university president until a nomination has been made by a committee. This committee did not consist of appointments made by Daniels. Critics of his selection pointed out that unlike previous presidents he lacks a background in academia. His term as president will commence upon completion of his term as Governor in January 2013. In preparation for his term as President of Purdue University, Daniels has recalled any endorsements for the 2012 election cycle and has taken non-partisan stances on campaign issues that are unrelated to higher education of fiscal matters.

Famous quotes containing the word university:
“The great problem of American life [is] the riddle of authority: the difficulty of finding a way, within a liberal and individualistic social order, of living in harmonious and consecrated submission to something larger than oneself.... A yearning for self-transcendence and submission to authority [is] as deeply rooted as the lure of individual liberation.”
