Misir Ali

Misir Ali (Bengali: মিসির আলি) is a very popular fictional detective (of sorts), the protagonist and a renowned extraordinary psychologist in a series of novels by leading Bangladeshi author and playwright, Humayun Ahmed.

Misir Ali is basically a rational psychologist committed to unraveling the mysteries that surround him. In the books, he is portrayed as very intelligent, a loner and part-time professor of Psychology at the University of Dhaka. Although he is not a professional psychiatric consultant, people suffering from psychological problems, come to him because of his special interest in paranormal activities of the human psyche.

Though none of the novels have, as yet, been translated into English, the whole series has brought about a revolution in the typical writing style in Bengali literature.

Famous quotes containing the word ali:

That was always the difference between Muhammad Ali and the rest of us. He came, he saw, and if he didn’t entirely conquer—he came as close as anybody we are likely to see in the lifetime of this doomed generation.
