Minor Allele Frequency

Minor allele frequency (MAF) refers to the frequency at which the less common allele occurs in a given population.

SNPs with a minor allele frequency of 5% or greater were targeted by the HapMap project.

MAF is widely employed in Genome Wide Association studies for complex traits.

Famous quotes containing the words minor and/or frequency:

To minor authors is left the ornamentation of the commonplace: these do not bother about any reinventing of the world; they merely try to squeeze the best they can out of a given order of things, out of traditional patterns of fiction.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

The frequency of personal questions grows in direct proportion to your increasing girth. . . . No one would ask a man such a personally invasive question as “Is your wife having natural childbirth or is she planning to be knocked out?” But someone might ask that of you. No matter how much you wish for privacy, your pregnancy is a public event to which everyone feels invited.
    Jean Marzollo (20th century)
