Ministry Of Culture And Tourism (Greece)

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Greek: Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού και Τουρισμού) is a government department of Greece entrusted with the preservation of the country's cultural heritage, the arts, as well as sports, through the subordinate General Secretariat for Sports. Established during the Regime of the Colonels in 1971 as the Ministry of Culture (Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού), it received its later name in October 2009, when the Ministry for Touristic Development was merged into it. The Ministry ceased to exist on 21 June 2012, when the Ministry of Tourism was re-established as a separate department, and the Ministry of Culture was merged with the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs to form the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports.

Famous quotes containing the words ministry, culture and/or tourism:

    the eave-drops fall
Heard only in the trances of the blast,
Or if the secret ministry of frost
Shall hang them up in silent icicles,
Quietly shining to the quiet Moon.
    Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834)

If mass communications blend together harmoniously, and often unnoticeably, art, politics, religion, and philosophy with commercials, they bring these realms of culture to their common denominator—the commodity form. The music of the soul is also the music of salesmanship. Exchange value, not truth value, counts.
    Herbert Marcuse (1898–1979)

In the middle ages people were tourists because of their religion, whereas now they are tourists because tourism is their religion.
    Robert Runcie (b. 1921)
