Release and Reception
"Mind's Eye" was released as a double A-side CD single in Australia on 16 October 2005. The second featured song is "Woman", which was later released as a separate single in 2006. "The Earth's Rotation Around the Sun", an instrumental, was featured as the single's B-side.
Australian music magazine Drum Media reviewed the single, summarising "Mind's Eye" as "Bloody good", particularly noting the "keyboard freakout in the middle ". Brisbane-based Rave made "Mind's Eye" their "Single of the Week", reviewing it as "really good", despite its "retro and derivative" qualities. Time Off were similarly positive, beginning their review with "'Mind's Eye' is an instant classic", and going on to describe it as "one of the finest songs of the new millennium". In reviews of the album on which "Mind's Eye" is featured, the song has frequently been identified as one of the highlights, notably by Kerrang!, Q and NME, who note the track as a "standout tune".
While "Mind's Eye" was largely received positively, it followed in the footsteps of Wolfmother by revealing similarities between the band and 'retro' or 'classic' hard rock acts. Both Drum Media and Time Off named Led Zeppelin as an influence on the song, while the former also suggested Pink Floyd and Deep Purple as having "bits ... in ".
