Chaparral Units

Among units stationed in the Continental U.S. using the M48, M48A1, and M48A2 Chaparral were:

- 3rd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery, 35th ADA Brigade, I Corps, which fielded 2 tracked batteries and the only wheeled battery (C/3-2 ADA) known to exist.

- Charlie and Delta Batteries, 1st Battalion, 67th Air Defense Artillery, 9th Infantry Division, FT Lewis, Washington, during the late 1970s until the mid-1990s

- 200th ADA and 111th ADA Battalions, New Mexico Army National Guard.

Units in West Germany included:

- 1st Battalion, 59th Air Defense Artillery, 8th Infantry Division, C and D Batteries, Mainz and relocated to Wackernheim in 1973.

- 2nd Battalion, 59th Air Defense Artillery, Division Artillery, 1st Armored Division, Schwabach.

- 2nd Battalion, 60th Air Defense Artillery, later re-designated as 3rd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery in 1988. The battalion had batteries stationed at Ramstein AFB, Zweibrücken AFB, and Sembach AFB for airfield air defense.

- 6th Battalion, 56th Air Defense Artillery, later re-designated as 5th Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery in 1988. The battalion had batteries stationed at Spangdahlem AFB, Bitburg AFB, and Hahn AFB.

- 3rd Battalion, 67th Air Defense Artillery. The battalion had a battery stationed at Giebelstadt AAB for airfield air defense.

M48A3 equipped units were also stationed in South Korea and several other locations.

The weapon system also deployed to Desert Storm but engaged no aircraft as allied air forces had negated any need for air defense.
