Milton Keynes Lightning

The Milton Keynes Lightning is an ice hockey team from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, currently (2012/2013) playing in the semi-professional English Premier Ice Hockey League (EPIHL).

They are also a founding member of The Elite Ice Hockey League, although they have not yet entered a team in that league despite the fact that they (along with the London Racers) are able to enter the league at any time without having to apply due to their Chairman being on the Board of Directors for the Elite League.

The team's Player-Coach is Canadian Nick Poole, who joined the team when it was established in 2002. He is also the coach for the U10's, U12's, U14's, U16's and U18's and is the longest serving player in the teams history.

Their home arena is 'Planet Ice' (also known as The Thunderdome), an ice rink to the south of Milton Keynes Central railway station in Central Milton Keynes. It has a capacity of around 2,200.

Famous quotes containing the words milton and/or lightning:

List Lady be not coy, and be not cosen’d
With that same vaunted name Virginity,
Beauty is natures coyn, must not be hoorded,
But must be current, and the good thereof
Consists in mutual and partak’n bliss,
Unsavoury in th’injoyment of it self
If you let slip time, like a neglected rose
It withers on the stalk with languish’t head.
    —John Milton (1608–1674)

But the lightning which explodes and fashions planets, maker of planets and suns, is in him. On one side elemental order, sandstone and granite, rock-ledges, peat-bog, forest, sea and shore; and on the other part, thought, the spirit which composes and decomposes nature,—here they are, side by side, god and devil, mind and matter, king and conspirator, belt and spasm, riding peacefully together in the eye and brain of every man.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
