Milk Allergy - Difference Between Milk Allergy and Lactose Intolerance

Difference Between Milk Allergy and Lactose Intolerance

Milk allergy is a food allergy, an adverse immune reaction to a food protein that is normally harmless to the non-allergic individual. Lactose intolerance is a non-allergic food sensitivity, and comes from a lack of production of the enzyme lactase, required to digest the predominant sugar in milk. Adverse effects of lactose intolerance generally occur after much higher levels of milk consumption than do adverse effects of milk allergy.

(Lactose intolerance is considered the normal state for most adults on a worldwide scale and is not typically considered to be a disease condition.)

Famous quotes containing the words difference between, difference, milk and/or intolerance:

The difference between a healthy person and one who is mentally ill is the fact that the healthy one has all the mental illnesses, and the mentally ill person has only one.
    Robert Musil (1880–1942)

What is any respectable girl brought up to do but to catch some rich man’s fancy and get the benefit of his money by marrying him?—as if a marriage ceremony could make any difference in the right or wrong of the thing!
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

Don’t milk the cow too hard. She will kick you.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

The revolutionary spirit is mighty convenient in this, that it frees one from all scruples as regards ideas. Its hard absolute optimism is repulsive to my mind by the menace of fanaticism and intolerance it contains. No doubt one should smile at these things; but, imperfect Esthete, I am no better Philosopher. All claim to special righteousness awakens in me that scorn and anger from which a philosophical mind should be free.
    Joseph Conrad (1857–1924)
