Principles of Military Camouflage
Military camouflage is part of the art of military deception. The main objective of military camouflage is to hide troops, vehicles and positions from the enemy. According to Winston Churchill (First Lord of the Admiralty in WWI and Prime Minister in WWII) deception in war is an indispensable "element of léger de main, an original and sinister touch, which leaves the enemy puzzled as well as beaten."
Vision is the main sense of orientation in humans, and the primary function of camouflage is to hide soldiers, vehicles or positions from the human eye. Camouflage works through concealment (whether by blending with the background or by disruption of outlines), mimicry, or dazzle. In modern warfare some forms of camouflage are also meant to conceal from radar, infrared, and night vision devices.

Famous quotes containing the words principles of, principles and/or military:
“The proclamation and repetition of first principles is a constant feature of life in our democracy. Active adherence to these principles, however, has always been considered un-American. We recipients of the boon of liberty have always been ready, when faced with discomfort, to discard any and all first principles of liberty, and, further, to indict those who do not freely join with us in happily arrogating those principles.”
—David Mamet (b. 1947)
“...at this stage in the advancement of women the best policy for them is not to talk much about the abstract principles of womens rights but to do good work in any job they get, better work if possible than their male colleagues.”
—Virginia Crocheron Gildersleeve (18771965)
“My ancestors were all famous for military genius.
My Lady smiled graciously. It often runs in families, she remarked: just as a love for pastry does.”
—Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (18321898)
